The Exfoliant I Solution and Exfoliant I Mild Solution are both designed to loosen dead skin cells immediately upon contact. The difference in these solutions is found in the pH balance. The Exfoliant I Mild Solution should be used for couperose conditions, skin of color and clients with sensitive skin, as it is titrated to have a lower pH index than the regular Exfoliant I Solution.
The Exfoliant I solution is titrated as an alkaline solution and is formulated to loosen dead skin cells immediately upon contact. It has a balanced pH of approximately 8.3. Enhancement of the stratum cornea is the first step in the exfoliation process. It begins immediately upon contact with the Exfoliant I Solution. As the solution begins to dissipate throughout the cellular parenchyma of the skin, the strato-cornico response is reactive and stimulatory.
The ingredients in Exfoliant I Solution work together to reduce the skin’s natural barrier to external substances (known as the acid mantle) at the cellular level. First, the enzymatic activity of natural papain and coconut acids dissolves keratinized cells. Next, as a result of the use of a high pH, alkaline solution (Exfoliant I), followed by a low pH, acidic solution (Exfoliant II), the skin attempts to return to its normal pH balance. This leaves the epidermis in a semi-permeable state.
Note: The Exfoliant I Mild Solution has a lower pH than the normal Exfoliant I Solution and is designed to work well with clients who have sensitive skin, couperose skin and/or darker complexions.
The Exfoliant II Solution is titrated to be a more acidic solution and will help neutralize the Exfoliant I Solution. It calms the skin to continue enhancement effects. The pH of the Exfoliant II Solution is approximately 4.2.
Cleansing Solution
The Cleansing Solution operates primarily as an antiseptic toner and protector against the staphylococcus bacteria on the skin — without harming the skin. The beneficial balance of bacteria on the skin has been found to keep certain forms of acne in check. Mints are widely used for the anti-bacterial effects on the surface of the skin. Mints ferment and this natural fermentation has an additional astringent effect on the skin, in terms of toning. This product contains no alcohol or acids and is suitable for all skin types including oily, dry and combination skin.
Onset of action is upon contact and lasts 1-2 minutes.
The benefit of the Liquid Minerals Solution is to increase circulation and stimulate cell metabolism. The Liquid Minerals Solution is applied to the ear lobes and to the lips to increase vascular circulation. These particular areas are targeted due to the large amount of blood vessels found in these areas. The goal is to bring as many red blood cells (RBC’s) as possible to the surface of the skin to be treated. These RBC’s then act as carriers for the oxygen and nutrients that will be placed on the treated skin.
The Liquid Minerals Solution contains concentrated Vitamin E (Tocopherol Acetate) oil (32,000 I.U.), as well as natural grape seed and apricot oils (known for their beneficial anti-oxidant capabilities), to soothe and nourish the ear lobe and lip areas.
Mycel, Mycelized or Mycelated are terms used to describe a process in which the vitamin molecule is made more bio-available (more readily absorbed and used by the body). These special vitamins (our A and E vitamins) have been broken down to the smallest possible molecule for better penetration.
Vitamin A (in the form of Retinol Palmitate) acts as a keratinization regulator, which helps to improve the skin’s texture, firmness and smoothness. Vitamin A is essential for the generation and function of skin cells, especially when combined with Vitamins E and C. Physicians often prescribe Vitamin A in higher doses to treat severe acne.
Retinol Palmitate is derived from Vitamin A. Known as a skin normalizer, it acts as anti-keratinizing agent helping the skin stay soft and plump while improving its water-barrier properties. As an anti-oxidant, it will help fight free radicals in the skin cells. Clinical studies with Vitamin A Palmitate indicate a significant change in skin composition with an increase in collagen, DNA, skin thickness and elasticity.
Vitamin A also has an effect on the development and maintenance of epithelial cells and the development of bone. It is necessary for the differentiation of underlying cutaneous cells into mucous epithelial cells. It is thus an important factor in determining the integrity of mucous membranes, such as those found in the respiratory tract, urinary tract and digestive tract.
Vitamin A is essential for the proper synthesis of mucoproteins and glycoproteins found in mucous membrane secretions that inhibit infection by maintaining epithelial integrity. By virtue of its roles in epithelial cell differentiation and the effects of retinoids on cancer malignancies, Vitamin A has been considered to serve an anticancer function as well.
Warning: Excess Vitamin A intake may be toxic and may increase the risk of birth defects. Pregnant women and women who may become pregnant should not exceed 5,000 I.U. total per day of pre-formed Vitamin A (retinol).
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble chemical found in the diet in varying amounts. Discovered in 1922, the term Vitamin E is used to refer to all tocol and trienol derivatives. Vitamin E is essential for our growth and survival. However, the human body does not make this vitamin.
Vitamin E has been shown to stabilize membranes by physiochemical interaction between its phytol side chain and the fatty acid chain of polyunsaturated phospholipids. It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins and prevents platelet aggregation in vitro and in vivo. There are some data that show Vitamin E reducing the synthesis of thromboxane and increasing the formation of prostacyclin. Thromboxane is considered the most potent platelet-aggregating factor. Vitamin E will also help to maintain the connective tissues of collagen and elastin.
Vitamin E is considered to be the most important antioxidant as well as a free radical scavenger. This antioxidation mechanism of Vitamin E has been demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo. Studies indicate that Vitamin E performs these functions when applied topically. It is also photo-protectant and it helps protect the cellular membrane from free radical damage. Additionally, Vitamin E serves as a preservative due to its ability to protect against oxidation. It is also proven to reduce transepidermal water loss (TWL), thereby improving the appearance of rough, dry or damaged skin.
Commonly known as jojoba oil, Simmondsia Chinensis acts as a moisturizer and emollient. Jojoba oil reduces transepidermal water loss (TWL) without completely blocking the transportation of water vapor and gases that provide the skin with suppleness and softness.
Recent studies suggest that pure jojoba oil assists in fighting acne due to its ability to “trick” the sebaceous glands into producing less sebum and breaking down sebum in clogged pores. Jojoba oil also serves as the perfect ingredient for lubrication with rapid penetration into the pores and follicles of the skin.
Cold pressed beans from the jojoba shrub release a thick liquid wax called jojoba oil. For centuries, the Sonoran Indians have used this oil as a remedy for hair disorders, scalp disorders and as a powerful skin moisturizer to combat the scorching desert climate. Jojoba oil has been shown to dramatically soften the skin, penetrating quickly without a greasy film, and it can reduce flaking and cracking as well. This natural oil simulates the scalp's natural oils to help retain moisture. It is a superior makeup remover and skin cleanser because it can help unblock pores, resulting in a clean clear complexion.
The ECHO2 Plus™ Oxygen Treatment System uses only pure, high-grade natural jojoba extract, expeller pressed from jojoba beans grown in Arizona.
The ECHO2 Plus™ Oxygen Treatment System uses a Vitamin C Ester formula utilizing Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate or TA. Vitamin C Ester products are a combination of L-Ascorbic Acid and fatty acids (natural oils). Our TA-Ester product is superior to Ascorbic Acid forms of Vitamin C in the following ways:
Stable and Non-Irritating
Stability is the most important advantage of this product as it ensures consistent performance. L-Ascorbic Acid is very sensitive to oxidation, turning yellow/brown and developing an unpleasant scent when in contact with oxygen. It also loses its potency and effectiveness rather quickly. Our Vitamin C Ester is stable. It will not oxidize or change color, and it stays active for longer periods of time. Because it is non-acidic, this Vitamin C Ester will not sting or burn sensitive skin. It can even be used directly after a peel or microdermabrasion. L-Ascorbic Acid is pro-inflammatory and does more harm than good.
Anti Oxidant (Free Radical Reducing) Activity
Vitamin C is one of the best (if not the best) free radical scavengers available today. In recent laboratory tests, TA was shown to produce 40% more anti-oxidant activity than a placebo. When compared with L-Ascorbic Acid, TA has a time-release-like- stable and increasing activity for up to 40 hours. Vitamin C in pure form (L-Ascorbic Acid) peaks immediately and is no longer active after less then six hours.
Another important advantage of Vitamin C Esters over pure L-Ascorbic Acid is that they will not cause a fenton reaction (which produces a dangerous free radical known as the hydroxyl radical).
Bio-Availability (Penetration and Retention)
Recent studies have shown that Vitamin C Esters, which are fat-soluble (unlike the water-soluble L-Ascorbic Acid), provide excellent penetration and retention in all parts of the skin. This means that each skin and fibroblast cell, including the critical outer portion or cell plasma membrane of each cell, is receiving the maximum amount of anti-oxidant protection. TA is dose-dependent. In the same concentrations, it penetrates at a rate three times higher than a water-soluble form of Vitamin C which is poorly absorbed and is not dose dependent.
Collagen Synthesis
Vitamin C is essential for the formation of collagen. Vitamin C plays a vital role in the formation of collagen by catalyzing chemical changes that allow lysine and proline to bind together as collagen subunits, adding structural stability to the "complete" collagen fibers. Our TA-based vitamin C Ester increases the fibroblast’s ability to synthesize collagen, increaseing cell viability and inhibiting the enzyme Gelatinase.
- The cell viability is increased by 50% with 0.1% TA.
- TA is four times more active then pure Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) in promoting collagen synthesis.
- TA inhibits twice as much Gelatinase activity as L-Ascorbic Acid.
Inhibition of Melanogenesis
In vitro tests show that 0.2% of TA reduces formation of melanin (the chemical responsible for hyper-pigmentation) by more than 80%, resulting in a brighter and more even skin tone.
UV-B Damage Prevention
TA has excellent penetration in keratinocytes (epidermal cells), resulting in better cell protection against UV-B radiation. In fact, it is 70% more effective than L-Ascorbic Acid.
The term Hygroscopic is used to describe an ingredient that has the ability to readily absorb and retain moisture. Older, non-nucleated skin cells contain only about half the amount of natural moisturizing factor as that found in younger cells. The ability of skin to hold moisture is directly related to its Na-PCA content.
The ECHO2 Plus™ Oxygen Treatment System Hygroscopic Enzyme Solution contains real Na-PCA (sodium salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid or just Sodium PCA) that is derived from amino acids. This unique, all natural ingredient is the naturally occurring component in human skin responsible for binding and retaining moisture in skin cells.
Our Hygroscopic Enzyme product is considered a high performance humectant due to its moisture binding ability. It has the ability to pull moisture out of the air and bind it to the skin cells. This greatly improves skin’s appearance, giving it a moist, youthful glow.
Enzymes are protein-based substances that catalyze specific metabolic reactions. This product gets its name from the enzymatic reaction that occurs in the skin as a result of the action of the carboxylic acid (-COOH) in the Na-PCA (carboxylic acid is a basic building block, along with an anime acid group, of amino acids —chains of which form all proteins).
The ECHO2 Plus™ Oxygen Treatment System Hygroscopic Enzymes product does not cover up dry skin. It physiologically corrects moisture-deficient skin. It is considered a non-comedogenic, non-allergic raw material recommended for dry, delicate and sensitive skins.
Because of the variable ranges of pH changes that the skin has gone through, the skin is now enhanced to be a more selectively, semi-permeable membrane. The skin will now safely absorb a select amount of molecular nutrients on a pore-by-pore basis.
The ECHO2 Plus™ Oxygen Treatment System Activator Solution helps to replace essential trace elements often found to be deficient in human skin. Our Activator Solution is derived from Purified Trace Minerals extracted from the Great Salt Lake in Utah (which contains essentially every mineral contained on the Earth). It is utilized in the ECHO2 Plus™ Oxygen Treatment System during the Oxygenation step.
